Smart Marketing

Image: Net-A-Porter, "The Perfect 10"

This marketing campaign by Net-A-Porter is brilliant: promote add-on-services that will make your Net-A-Porter purchases last longer, look nicer, and seem all the more luxurious. It's subtle, and really smart.

Net-A-Porter has paired each of these little tips with a product that (they argue) every woman should have in her closet. I, for one, think that this is quite a savvy way to position luxury products. The logic inherent in these tips seems to run something like this: The purchase of a luxury bag might seem to break the bank, but if you can get it cleaned every few years, maybe it's worth the short-term investment. Look beautiful and make your products last longer. Who needs Target when you can have a classic wardrobe that lasts for years?

Such a campaign represents a departure from the traditional lookbook approach of high-end online fashion retailers and makes me want to take note of Net-A-Porter's next steps. More to come from the service and product marketing realm in the months ahead. As I've said before i'm just beginning to carve out a new niche with this blog and excited to take my writing into some new domains.

Marni for H&M

Have you seen the new Marni for H&M collection? I'm totally loving this designer collabo, which I stumbled upon while doing some research for my branding class.

All Work And...

...no play makes R a very dull girl. With that thought in mind, this weekend i'm branching out for a nice lil blend of work and relaxation as my third quarter of design school gets into full swing. Tomorrow i'm heading down to Austin by way of Atlanta for the Design for Social Impact Bootcamp, put on by the friendly and smart folks at the Austin Center for Design and HourSchool, a neat startup that facilitates community-based learning. During my downtime, I plan on doing a little hopping around town. On my list are a few must-returns from my last visit:

Bows and Arrows is a wonderful boutique with a minimalist, western feel.

Oooh, and check out this lovely bracelet that I spotted on the Arrow + Arrow website. Too pricey for my student budget, but one can always admire from afar, right?

Zilker Park, previously missed due to overcrowding for the Christmas tree lighting, might be a great place for an early spring swim.

Annnd...Blue Dahlia Bistro. Amazing, amazing brunch, and a great french bakery vibe (see food below).

Stay tuned for more, because i'm just gearing up!
