Yesterday evening I attended a Maundy Thursday service after a long day of school and projects. It's tempting to assume that we don't have time for things like a mid-week step away from routine, but I must admit that there's nothing like a heavy dose of Anglican liturgy to reset and refocus. Last night's service was at a local Catholic center on a nearby island. We arrived to a beautiful sunset as we walked towards a little chapel by the marsh. During the service, heavy rain pounded outside as we sang and prayed and listened. My heart was quieted and filled by the rhythms of a service of worship. Throughout the service, the priest reminded us of why we do what we do, why the rituals are rich with meaning and why our bodies and the way that we use them (even in a time of worship) are so important. As the evening wrapped, the rain stilled, taking with it the heat of the afternoon. I felt at peace and ready to take on life's next adventures. A day later as I end another hard chug through project-based work, i'm reminded of last night's stillness and all I want to do is return.
